How to Finish Torchon Lace Trim Edge

Torchon lace trim as would be known is a type of lace trim that is commonly used in sewing for added embellishment of the garment or fabric materials such as clothes, curtain, among others. Bobbin lace is made by weaving the threads round pins, which are arranged in a certain pattern on a cushion – that is why it is called pillow lace. Torchon lace border is one of the elements often used to create romantic hints and proper Victorian style for the product.

To finish torchon lace trim there is basic protocol that must be followed namely seaming the ends. This is usually done by hand by directly sewing the ends together; however, it may also be done mechanized using the sewing machine. If you are using a sewing machine then use the zig zag stitch Option so that ends will not open, this stitching gives nice finishing to edges.

After having the ends tied, the next step is to give the trim edges the appropriate finishing. This is possible through the processes including overcasting, binding as well as hemming of the garments. Torchon lace trim’s edges are generally hemmed, all seemingly being Hemming. For detailed finishing, fold the edge of the trim over twice and then sew on it. This will make it look finely sewn right from the edge; neither will it look revealed in any way.

There is another way that is used in closing the loops of the torchon lace trim and it is binding. To bind the trim, you will need to create a bias tape piece of material that is slightly longer than the trim and fabric. Put the bias tape over the trim edge and pin it down then sew it to the trim. This will give a smooth and polished look which will not afford any rough end-s which could be liable to fray.

Finally, overcasting serves as a tool that is used to finish torchon lace trim edges. To overcast the trim, use zig zag stitch and sew on the line that runs along the edge of the trim. This will give a clean, neat and polished look that will not afford an opportunity for fraying.

After that the edges of trim are neat you progress to the final stage of affixing the trim to the fabric. This can be achieved through hand sewing, or through the use or available sewing machines. If using a sewing machine ensure that you use this zigzag stitch to ensure that the trims are well sewn.

Lastly, the last stage in finishing torchon lace trim is ironing of the trim in order to maintain its perfect form. This can either be done using a pressing cloth and an iron but at low heat intensity all through the ironing process. Precaution should be taken to press the trim on the wrong side so that it may not be damaged in case a rod is used to press it.

By adopting these easy steps, it’s simple to complete the torchon Lace Trim and give any pattern that special classic feel. The beauty of this procedure is that if you take your time, lay the polyurethane well and sand between coats, you will have a showroom quality floor that will last for several years.
